For example, on one level a carrot gets stuck in the hole and you have to lure out a bunny from its cage with said carrot so that you can swallow him or a simpler mini puzzle where you have to eat corn from a cart aswell as a campfire to make popcorn. There isn't much I can say about the witting besides it being an aspect I really liked due to it being engaging and hilarious and it overall added even more charm to the game for me.ĭonut County 's gameplay revolves around being a hole that swallows various things to get bigger, and swallow even larger things to continue growing in size and that concept is integrated into what I think is quite a unique puzzle game. But other than that, the pacing was solid imo. I think the game's levels and story are well paced for the 1st half of the game but I did find the 2nd half to suffer some pacing issues like the in last level for example which dragged a bit. I did find a few of the side characters to be rather forgettable but other than that, Character development was great imo. This made the more character focused moments feel more engaging for me. There are also the side characters like Potter, Salt and Pepper, etc who are also pretty well developed and interesting to listen too. There is definitely much more to it and overall, the story ends up being a really weird aspect of the game that added plenty of charm to it.Ĭharacters wise, I found the main characters Mia and BK to be really interesting especially the latter who I think is the most well developed character in the game. Until very recently where I saw it on my switch library and finally decided to check it out and I really liked it.ĭonut County 's story is a bit hard to explain without spoiling it but it's essentially about a raccoon named BK who sent holes that destroyed half the town they're living in. I picked up Donut County on switch a while back but, I forgot about the game and I ended up not getting around to it. I highly recommend it if you haven't played it. As the story and game ideas unfold, you realize the bigger meaning of what your "hole sucking" really is. Donut County is simple, but it's not dumb. This has a much bigger impact than a cutscene where someone tries to explain meaning to you. I've been doing the game idea this whole time as well without realizing it." I've not just been doing the game action this whole time. Essentially, any time you're doing an action in a game and you later realize, "Woah. Florence (a true masterpiece) does this so well. This sounds silly (and is similar to Katamari), but they throw in a few puzzles and extra mechanics into the later levels. The main mechanic is sucking objects into a hole in the ground in order to grow the hole bigger so it can suck up bigger objects. I don't have time for games with a lot of stuffing. I'm a busy dad with a professional career. The game is short, clocking in at ~2hrs to beat. I finally got a SteamDeck and so I've been able to game a little more conveniently and thought Donut County would be a perfect game for the platform. They've played through the whole thing several times. Every other time I tried to play, my kids would come in, see me playing and ask to play.
